I bring the landscape home with me. Hans Hofmann (1880-1966)

These landscape paintings flow freely from my imagination, as opposed to a conceptual approach or a fixation on sensory information. In my mind’s eye, bodies of water, rocks, mountains and clouds interact in a dynamic field of energy. Like the late paintings of Claude Monet and Paul Cézanne, my subject matter is transformed into a pattern of painterly gestures. And yet, no matter how extreme the degree of abstraction, I still endeavor to stay connected to Nature. - GC
